Tar Balls From Oil Spill Found Near Corpus Christi

Oil from the Galveston Bay spill last week is sliding down the coast. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that tar balls washed up Sunday in Mustang Island State Park near Corpus Christi, approximately 200 miles away from the spill site.

Currents and winds have pulled some of the nearly 170,000 gallons of bunker fuel from the site of the ship and barge collision out into the Gulf of Mexico. The tar balls were reported to range from about the size of a quarter up to 3 inches.

About 90 workers were dispatched to clean up a 22-mile area from Port Aransas to North Padre.
