The man involved in a deadly shooting at a beauty salon in California which killed 8 people, reportedly suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder brought on by a maritime accident he had been involved in.
The man used to be a maritime worker, and had worked on tugboats, barges and fishing vessels. In 2007, he was severely injured in an accident that occurred on a tugboat. He suffered serious leg injuries in the accident, which also killed a deckhand.
The man required multiple surgeries after the accident, and his injuries were so severe that he almost had to have his legs amputated. He became permanently disabled, and quickly slid into depression. Soon after, his doctor diagnosed him as suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. His marriage quickly started to unravel, and his wife began divorce proceedings. The two of them have been involved in an acrimonious custody battle over their eight-year old son.
Now he faces murder charges after what is being described as one of the deadliest shooting attacks in the history of Orange County, California. He arrived at the Salon Meritage in Seal Beach last Wednesday after, and opened fire. Six people died immediately, and two people succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. He was detained by police as he tried to drive away from the scene.
Post traumatic stress disorder is a condition that can develop after a person is exposed to immense stress or trauma, involving a threat to life, like a car or truck accident, workplace accident, maritime accident, natural catastrophe, war, or a terrorist attack.
