Former U.S. ambassador Arthur Schechter will be honored with the Spirit of Life Award on Feb. 8 at the 2014 “There’s No Place Like the Home” gala. The event benefits residents of Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Service.
Festivities start at 7 p.m at Westin Galleria Houston Hotel, 5060 West Alabama. The celebration will include a cocktail party, silent auction, dinner, dancing and casino games.
The Spirit of Life Award honors the recipients’ long-term community service performed with the highest standards of integrity. It is bestowed upon honorees who display a high level of energy and community spirit. Others receiving the award this year include Diana Brackman, Ann Friedman and Conrad S. Weil, Jr.
About Arthur Schechter
Mr. Schechter is a senior partner and founding member of Schechter, Shaffer & Harris. He has spent his legal career fighting tirelessly for the rights of personal injury clients.
From 1998 to 2001, he served as the United States ambassador to the Bahamas. In addition to his celebrated legal career, he has served the Jewish community in many capacities.
Mr. Schechter is a Past President of the Jewish Federation of Houston, Past President of Congregation Beth Israel, Past President of the American Jewish Committee and Chairman of the United Jewish Campaign.
He has also served on the boards of organizations that include Seven Acres, Anti-Defamation League Southwest Region, Holocaust Museum Houston, and the Holocaust Memorial Council.
