World Against Toys Causing Harm Inc. recently released its annual list of the 10 worst toys for child safety. The Houston personal injury attorneys at Schechter, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P., Accident & Injury Lawyers want to make sure you and your loved ones know about these toys and the hazards they present.
The non-profit organization W.A.T.C.H. focuses on educating the public about children’s products that are dangerous to increase consumer awareness and press for more responsible manufacturing and marketing. Here are the 10 worst toys on their list for 2013.
1. Army Force Automatic Rifle: This toy contains small parts that may be a choking hazard. Additionally, W.A.T.C.H. says that detailed weapon replicas have resulted in a number of deaths over the years and should not be encouraged as toys.
2. Big Rock & Roll Ball Pit: May cause injury if children dive, climb on or jump off of this item.
3. Max Steel Interactive Steel With Turbo Sword: This hard plastic toy can cause facial or other injuries.
4. Disney Princess Backpack Fishing Kit: The insert with this backpack notes that the time contains lead and may generate dust containing lead.
5. Black Widow Folding Slingshot: This powerful slingshot can potentially cause severe harm, according to its disclaimer of liability.
6. Little Drummer: The drumsticks for this toy, marketed to infants as young as 12 months old, are a potential choking hazard.
7. Boomerang “Throw & Catch”: This hard, plastic toy cautions that it should not be aimed at people or animals, but it has the potential for injuries if children don’t follow those rules.
8. Disney Baby Snow White: The detachable headband with heart-adorned bow can be a choking hazard.
9. N-Strike Jolt Blaster: The darts forcefully shot by this toy can cause serious eye injuries.
10. The Spooner – Freestyle: Marketed as the “ultimate fun board,” this toy does not come with safety gear or mention the need for it when performing the fun tricks it advertises.
If your children received one of these toys for Christmas, carefully read all instructions and weigh the risks before allowing the products to be used.
