One man died and another is charged with intoxication manslaughter after an alleged drunk driving accident in north Houston on Tuesday night.
According to police, the driver of a Chevrolet Impala was heading westbound in the 1400 block of Parker near the Hardy Toll Road when he tried to pass the car in front of him. When the Impala moved into the oncoming traffic lane, it collided with an eastbound Nissan Maxima.
The driver of the Nissan, whose name has not been released, died in the accident. A passenger in the car was taken to Memorial Hermann hospital, but the passenger’s condition was not released.
The Impala driver fled the scene after the accident but was soon found by police and taken into custody.
Texas leads the nation in alcohol-related car accidents every year. While drunk driving is a crime that will be addressed by the judicial system, victims of an intoxicated driver and their families also have a right to pursue civil litigation.
