A Hercules Offshore liftboat that was struck by several waterspouts capsized in the Gulf of Mexico off Louisiana on Friday evening.
Five crewmembers aboard the Starfish vessel were evacuated and rescued at sea shortly after the capsizing. They were treated for minor injuries at hospital in Houma, Louisiana, and released.
The vessel, a 140-class liftboat, was hit by multiple waterspouts, which are similar to tornadoes and form over bodies of water, on Ship Shoal Block 116, approximately 30 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, offshore Louisiana.
Hercules notified the authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard, and mobilized another liftboat to monitor the condition of the capsized vessel and coordinate salvage efforts.
