A natural gas fire is out after burning for more than a day at a well off Louisiana coast. The flow of natural gas from the well blowout that occurred before the fire also has been stopped.
Authorities say sand and sediment is believed to have blocked the flow of gas from the blown out well. Travel restriction for air and seacraft are still in effect in the area, and officials were now focusing on securing the well.
Experts say the pollution threats are far less than in previous incidents because natural gas was involved, rather than oil.
A light sheen that was spotted around the rig Wednesday morning quickly dissipated, as did a sheen that was spotted shortly after the blowout Tuesday.
The blowout occurred mid-morning Tuesday and prompted the evacuation of 44 workers from a nearby jackup rig. None were injured. The cause of the blowout was being investigated.
