The missing data recorder for the freighter El Faro, which sunk last October on account of the effects of Hurricane Joaquin, was recovered in the waters of the Bahamas yesterday. “Hopefully, the recoverable data will shed light on the disastrous decisions that let to this tragedy, ” said Matthew Shaffer, who is representing the family of Sylvester Crawford, one of the 33 crew members who died on the ship. “We applaud the diligent efforts of the US Navy in recovering the recorder.”
The next round of Coast Guard investigative hearings for the sinking of the El Faro will be May 16th-27th in Jacksonville, FL.
