The Texas Department of Public Safety said that a truck driver’s failure to control speed was the cause of a chain-reaction accident that killed two adults and two children on Interstate 10 near Vidor at about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 1.
The 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer that started the accident was traveling westbound on I-10, where traffic was stopped due to construction. The driver struck 2003 Volvo tractor-trailer that was stopped, and the force of the impact propelled the second truck into a 2002 Dodge pickup.
While the driver of the Dodge wasn’t seriously injured, the Kenworth truck veered to the right, driving over a Ford passenger car, which then caught on fire. It then struck a Kia SUV, which became stuck underneath the tractor-trailer.
The driver of the Ford car and the Kia SUV were pronounced dead at the scene, as were two child passengers of the Kia.
DPS is still investigating the truck accident, and no charges have been filed yet.
