Investigators are looking into incidents of sexual assault of child passengers involving a crew member on two luxury cruise liners. The alleged sexual assault occurred on the Cunard vessels, the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Elizabeth over a five-year period.
The suspect is from the United Kingdom. Local police have confirmed that they are investigating allegations of sexual assault against the man who was an employee of Cunard. The man no longer works for the cruise line company. He has already been interrogated. His house has been searched and his computers have been seized. Police are trying to contact parents of child passengers who had traveled these two cruise ships to gather evidence against the man. Local police are working together with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in investigating the abuse.
According to police, they began the investigation after they received a tipoff about the abuse. The man who is under suspicion lives in Wiltshire, England.
No arrests have been made at this point in time. There is also no further news about when the abuse occurred. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is asking parents to contact the Society if they have any concerns.
This new cruise line sex abuse scandal is the latest in a series of cruise passenger safety concerns that maritime lawyers have come across recently. Earlier this year, a crew member on a Carnival cruise ship was arrested for having illegal sex with a minor passenger. In January, a Royal Caribbean ship crew member was indicted for having illegal sex with a minor female passenger in December.
