Two students nearly drowned this morning during a training exercise at The Ocean Corporation commercial diving school in Houston. The two were rushed by helicopter to Memorial Hermann – The Texas Medical Center, but their conditions were not released.
The incident occurred about 10 a.m. in an indoor tank used for training underwater welding and other commercial diving tasks. The students were wearing scuba gear and diving helmets, said Jeff Brown, director of students services. It was the first such incident in more than 40 years, he said.
Houston Fire Department paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on at least one of the students upon arriving at the scene.
