A man and a woman died after a boating accident in the San Jacinto River Tuesday. Authorities believe the 14-foot fishing boat capsized after going over the Lake Houston spillway around noon in northeast Harris County.
After finding a life jacket near a tree, the two bodies were found around 3:00 p.m. The search involved several agencies, including the Crosby Fire Department, the Harris County Sherriff’s Office marine unit and the U.S. Coast Guard.
High water from last week’s heavy rain was likely a contributing factor to the accident, according to Texas Parks & Wildlife Department spokesman Tom Harvey. He said usually there is little to no water going over the Lake Houston spillway, which drops 40 feet.
The bodies have not yet been identified, but authorities are hoping a truck and trailer left behind at a boat launch will help with the identification.
