Texting Accident Victim in Texas Will Share His Story to End Texting While Driving

Twenty-one year old Texas college student, Chance Bothe, was just released from the hospital after 6 months of recovering from a horrible car accident. While texting with his friend, his car plunged into a ravine and landed in a creek. He broke nearly every bone in his body. He spent months recovering in a hospital in Houston and even had to re-learn how to walk.

Dr. Jacob Joseph, with the Specialty Rehabilitation Program at TIRR Memorial stated that they are seeing more and more people with brain injuries due to texting and driving and unfortunately, he does not think that will stop any time soon.

“He is one of the lucky ones that we’ve seen dramatic recovery and he’s gonna be able to live a full and a regular life so that’s great; that’s a miracle in that sense,” said Dr. Joseph.

Bothe realizes how lucky he is and hopes to return to college and spread the message of what can happen when you text and drive. “They just need to understand don’t do it. Don’t do it. It’s not worth losing your life,” he told ABC13. “I went to my grandmother’s funeral not long ago. And I kept thinking, it kept jumping into my head: ‘I’m surprised that’s not me in that casket.’ I came very close to that. To being gone forever.
