Tragic Texas 18-Wheeler Accident Clams Life of Unborn Baby Boy

An 18-wheeler accident in Diboll, Texas horrifically claimed the life of a pregnant woman’s unborn child.  Mary Chiz, who was eight months pregnant, and her fiancé Travis Wertz were driving their Montero Sport along U.S. Highway 59 South when an 18-wheeler driven by Victor Fugah of Houston, Texas rear-ended them.  The rear-ender caused a chain-reaction motor vehicle accident.

The couple was slammed into another 18-wheeler on the road in front of them.  Their Montero was sandwiched between two huge, powerful tractor-trailer trucks.  Emergency workers took at least 30 minutes to free the injured couple from their SUV.

The driver of the 18-wheeler that rear-ended Chiz was cited by Diboll police for failure to control speed.  When questioned, Fugah claimed he did not see the car in between his truck and the other truck in front of him.  The other 18-wheeler involved in the Texas trucking accident was driven by Jorge Grimaldo, also of Houston.

According to local Texas media, Mary Chiz felt this unborn boy was her miracle; that prior to this pregnancy she believed she would not be able to have children.  She remains in the ICU while doctors monitor her organs and other injuries.  Travis Wertz suffered a broken collarbone.
