A Texas highway department employee was killed when he was hit by a truck at a work site in Harrison County.
The Texas Department of Transportation identified the victim as Tony Overhultz, a highway department inspector. Mr. Overhulz was working on Interstate 20 when a truck hauling paving materials backed over him, according to highway department officials.
The truck was operated by Madden Construction of Minden, La. Madden served as a contractor on the highway project.
Overhultz was married with two children and had worked for the highway department for 12 years, department spokesman Marcus Sandifer said. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and co-workers as they deal with this tragic and preventable loss.
In Texas, on average large trucks are involved in 49 accidents a day and at least one of those accidents will be fatal.
