Texas Construction Workers Injured in Santa Fe High School Auditorium Collapse

Three workers were injured Friday morning by steel beams that collapsed in the Santa Fe High School auditorium that was under construction in the 16000 block of state Highway 6.  The school district is building an auditorium on the high school campus. The construction was in its beginning phases.
A crane at the site was used to lift a 12-foot long, heavy steel column just a few inches to free the most seriously injured worker.  That worker was tied to one beam, which was tied to another beam that broke loose, causing him to fall about 50 feet.  He was trapped in the debris.  Once freed, the injured construction worker was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to a waiting ambulance which transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

This Texas worker is reported to have life-threatening injuries.  Another worker was taken to the hospital and is thankfully expected to survive.  Local investigative agencies have not yet determined what led to the construction collapse in Texas today.  OSHA will assist in investigating the incident at the Texas construction site.
