Man Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against La Porte Chemical Plant

A Texas man has filed a $1 million lawsuit against a La Porte chemical plant after an accident that melted his boots and skin, leaving him hospitalized for two months.

The incident occurred in August in a room filled with large machines that pass electricity through salt and water to create chlorine. Court documents allege there were some uncovered openings in the floor of this room, known as the “cell room.”

Santos alleges in the lawsuit that his foot slipped through a gap, and electrical current melted his boots and skin. After being airlifted to a Houston hospital, he had at least two skin grafts and remained there for two months, court documents say.

In the lawsuit filed against Oxy Vinyls, which owns the Battleground Manufacturing Complex, Jose Santos Jr. claims the company was negligent and failed to provide adequate warning of the condition of the room. The lawsuit says Santos is permanently scarred and unable to work and seeks damages for past and future medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and mental anguish.
