Garden Court Condos Austin Balcony Collapse Injury Lawyers

A local Austin, Texas party turned chaotic when the balcony of an apartment complex collapsed this weekend, injuring at least 23 people.  The party-goers at the Garden Court Condominiums were thrown to the ground after a second-floor balcony collapsed.  The second-story balcony was attached to a three-story townhouse.  The Austin balcony was large and included a spiral staircase to a hot tub on the concrete patio below.

The Austin balcony was supported by two metal support posts when it collapsed at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday after a Saturday night party that continued well into the after-hours.  A few of the men at the party held parts of the balcony up after the collapse so that people could move.

University Medical Center Brackenridge treated 23 people for injuries that included bone fractures.  Most of the injured had broken and fractured bones and jaws.  Other hospitals in Round Rock are treating some of the injured.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the 30 people on the balcony may have exceeded its weight limit.  Insurance adjusters for the apartment complex owners and apartment management will certainly try to blame the residents and their visitors for the collapse.  However, I doubt that any college party-goer could reasonably expect a seemingly sturdy second-story deck to collapse.
