Three crew members are missing after two BNSF Railway freight trains collided Tuesday afternoon, causing a massive explosion and forcing the surrounding areas to evacuate. The head-on collision happened 5 miles east of the town of Panhandle, Texas, just 25 miles northeast of Amarillo. The two trains were carrying two crew members each; one member jumped right before the collision and was taken to an Amarillo hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators have not  yet been able to search the wreckage properly for the missing crew members as workers are still continuing to quell the flames. It’s still not clear as to why the trains were on the same track or how fast they were going when they collided. This is the second incident involving BNSF trains striking one another in recent years.
