Towing tugboat, Thomas Dann, exploded several miles away from Marineland, Florida this past Monday. The engine room began smoking and later erupted into flames as the tug was towing a barge in convoy. Six crew members evacuated the boat via life raft and were later rescued by local fisherman before the fire set off two explosions. No injuries have been reported. Firefighters were able to calm the flames within several hours of the explosion. Currently, there is no information as to what caused the fire as the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities are still investigating. The 1975 vessel was operated by Dann Ocean Towing of Tampa and will be undergoing repairs once safety is ensured.
