Oil and gas worker killed on platform in Gulf of Mexico

Maritime & Jones Act Workers Claims, Maritime Injuries, Offshore Injuries

An oil and gas worker was killed last Saturday while working on a Talos Energy Platform in the Gulf of Mexico, just 64 miles south of Lake Charles, LA. The worker, who has not yet been identified was removing fire suppression equipment that was reportedly out-of-service at the time of the incident. The injuries and cause of death are still under investigation.

Talos Energy, a Houston-based oil and gas company that is renowned for offshore exploration and production, has reported other fatalities in the past. In October 2013, Energy Resource Technology, a subsidiary of Talos Productions, announced another fatality on their account just mere months after the company was put on a performance improvement plan by federal regulators. As a result, Energy Resource Technology was commanded to pay $4.2 million in 2016 for the incident.

According to the federal regulator, BSEE (Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement) 29 individuals have died as a result of offshore drilling accidents between 2009 and 2016. 11 of these deaths occurred during the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion in 2010.
