A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology in August found that middle-aged men taking Risperdal are 69 percent more likely to suffer from gynecomastia.
Risperdal is prescribed to treat a wide range of conditions, including bipolar I, schizophrenia, autism, depression, ADD and anxiety.
Gynecomastia is a condition marked by the development of breast tissue in males. The link between this drug and gynecomastia, as well as other conditions, has resulted in hundreds of Risperdal lawsuits being filed across the nation.
The study from University of Columbia researchers looked at health records from 82,850 men ages 40 to 85. The men included in the study took different types of antipschotic medications, including Risperdone, an ingredient in Risperdal.
According to their research, 27 out of 174 men who took Risperdone developed gynecomastia within two months of starting treatment.
