Two float planes that were carrying cruise passengers collided in flight Monday afternoon near Ketchikan, Alaska. Four people have been confirmed dead and two are still missing.
The passengers were all guests of the Royal Princess, a Princess Cruise ship line.
One of the small planes was flying a shore excursion- a tour of Alaska’s Misty Fjords-and was carrying 10 passengers and a pilot. One passenger on the Taquan Air plane was pronounced dead while the other 9 were rescued and received medical attention.
The second plane was carry four passengers and a pilot for an independent tour that was also hosted by the Royal Princess. Three people were proclaimed dead- including two passengers and the pilot. Rescue efforts are ongoing for the two remaining passengers.
The US Coast Guard is leading the investigation as to what exactly caused the two planes to collide.
