A fire broke out Thursday at the AT&T building in downtown Houston, injuring several CenterPoint employees. Five people suffered significant electrical burns and were transported to the emergency room at Memorial Hermann Hospital – Texas Medical Center.
Capt. Ray Lozano, of the Houston Fire Department, said the five burn victims were hit with more than 480 volts in a flash fire. The fire broke out about 10 a.m. in a basement electrical vault. Traffic was blocked off surrounding the building, located at 1121 Capitol and San Jacinto.
One man was listed in critical condition, two as serious, and two in fair condition. The cause of the fire was not yet determined, Lozano said. Three nearby buildings lost power after the fire, according to a CenterPoint spokesperson.
