Arlington, Texas Motorcycle Cop Killed in Collision with School Bus

Posted on Jan 13, 2010

An Arlington, Texas motorcycle officer and a school bus collided this morning, leading to the unfortunate death of the policeman.  Witnesses said they saw flames coming from the motorcycle.  The bus driver and students on board were not hurt.

The officer's name was being withheld until his family had been notified, said Tiara Ellis Richard, a police spokeswoman.

A press conference was scheduled for 11:30 a.m., at the Arlington Police headquarters building where the U.S. flag was flying at half staff.

The school bus carried the driver plus nine students who attend Crow, Ditto and Dunn elementary schools, and Bailey and Young junior highs.

The children were transported to nearby Arlington High School to speak with police, before being released to their parents or taken to their campuses.

A 1994 police officer death happened very near the scene of today's crash.  In that accident, a patrol car crashed into a U.S. Postal Service tractor-trailer rig while responding to a reported burglary.

The collision happened close to Arlington High School.  Arlington is midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.
