Woman Killed, Man Arrested On Intoxication Manslaughter in Jefferson County Auto Pedestrian Accident

A woman was killed and the driver arrested on intoxication manslaughter charges after a Thursday night auto-pedestrian accident in Jefferson County.

A group of people were walking in the grass near the edge of a road about 8:40 p.m. A 2008 Dodge pickup truck traveling east moved to to the center of the road as he approached but did not see others walking in the middle of the roadway. Two pedestrians were struck, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Maxine Comeaux, 19, and her sister Marquida Comeaux, 20, were taken to Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with head injuries. Maxine Comeaux was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. at the hospital. Her sister was treated and released.

The driver of the pickup, Marcus Deshotel, 34, was not injured.
