Texas Trucking Accident Lawyers Encourage Participation in FMCSA Listening Sessions on HOS Rules
by Stacey E. Burke on January 06, 2010
In 2009, Texas truck accident lawyers noted a confirmation by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that it would revise the controversial Hours of Service rules for truck drivers. As part of efforts to revise the rule, the agency is taking a very welcome step - it has announced that it will hold four listening sessions in the month of January to encourage participation from the public, and gain inputs that help formulate new rules.
The venues for three listening sessions have been announced, and the fourth one will be announced soon. As Texas truck accident lawyers, we were pleased to learn that one of these sessions will held in Dallas. The session will be held on January 27th between 9 am and 5 pm CST at the Hyatt Regency Dallas Fort Worth Airport, Dallas Fort Worth.
Members of the public who are interested in participating in this session are requested to contact:
David Miller
Office of Police Plans and regulations
US Department of Transportation
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (202) 366-5011
The FMCSA has also prepared a list of possible questions that participants are required to go through before they attend the session. There are 11 questions in all, and they relate to rest periods, on duty work hours, use of sleeper berths, and loading and unloading issues.
Ultimately, it's innocent members of the public who suffer when a truck driver who has been driving for 11 hours nonstop dozes off at the wheel, and causes an accident. Texas trucking accident attorneys would encourage members of the public to participate in this session. Driver fatigue is an issue that impacts all of us, and this is a chance to make your voices heard.
