Texas High School Student Killed By Her School Bus
by Stacey E. Burke on February 18, 2010
A 15-year-old J.J. Pearce High School student named Anquanete Patterson died yesterday after falling from a moving school bus.
Her bus driver had stopped the bus and demanded that two students who were fighting exit. When the bus driver began to drive away, Ms. Patterson allegedly demanded to get off the bus as well. It is alleged by investigators that she forced the bus doors open, fell to the pavement and was run over by the rear wheels. She unfortunately died before she could be transported to a local hospital.
School bus transportation is one of the most common forms of mass transit in the United States. Millions of school children ride school buses every year. Parents trust the drivers to be careful with their children, and they trust the school district to hire safe drivers. Most school bus accidents happen while the child is on the bus or when the child is entering or exiting the bus and gets hit as a pedestrian. Either way, significant injuries or even fatalities can occur.
School bus accident victims may be entitled to legal damages. The attorneys of Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, LLP are ready to fight for you in your school bus accident case anywhere in Texas.
