by Stacey E. Burke on December 19, 2009
Last night in Houston, Texas on Eastland, a truck traveling north swerved into the opposite lane of traffic, and struck a man who was sitting on the side of the road in a wheelchair. The roadside man was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital and listed in critical condition. The truck's driver had alcohol on his breath and submitted to a blood draw.
Later last night, a pedestrian was fatally injured as he attempted to cross a freeway. Stephen Cannon, 27, was struck as he walked across the South Loop West near Kirby. The driver didn't stop after hitting him and was later located in a parking lot a mile away. The offsending driver was taken into custody and charges are pending, according to the Houston Police Department.
