Motorcycle Precautions That Can Save Your Life

Each year, many Houston, Texas residents die as a result of motorcycle accidents.  The causes of most fatal Houston motorcycle accidents remain generally unknown.  However, as Houston Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, we advise our clients and all cyclists to exercise greater caution in general when operating a motorcycle.

SMSH List of General Safety Tips for Motorcycle Riders:

  • Wear quality protective clothing such as gloves, helmet, and boots
  • Take new driver or refresher training classes and keep up with changes in laws affecting cyclists
  • Safely ride a medium-sized motorcycle before a heavier ones or a smaller bike known for speed
  • Ride alongside an experienced buddy
  • Remember drivers of cars and trucks are less likely to see you in poor weather conditions, and act accordingly
  • Avoid riding during rush hour if possible

Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris, L.L.P.'s team of experienced Houston, Texas Motorcycle Accident Attorneys has helped motorcycle injury victims for over forty years.  Please contact us at info@smslegal.com or toll-free by phone at (800) 282-2122 for a free evaluation of any motorcycle injury case.

Thanks for providing information to new riders. It is a needed service.

However, I would respectfully disagree with one of your suggestions given above (or at least, seek to clarify it).

It is against Texas traffic laws and dangerous to "ride alongside" someone else. Motorcycle riders should generally ride in a staggered formation with sufficient stopping distance between the bikes to allow a safe stop.

Otherwise, the suggestions are right on.
