Motorcycle Accident Death in Lewisville, Texas Also Severely Injures Passenger

A 22-year-old Lewisville man named Craig Bishop was sadly pronounced dead Thursday night at Medical Center of Lewisville, Texas shortly after after a motorcycle accident in a residential neighborhood. A 19 year-old female passenger on his motorcycle was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, for treatment of broken bones and internal injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, although some witnesses have noted the high speed of the motorcycle preceding the crash.

Motorcycle accidents can be tragic and often fatal.  The statistics show serious bodily harm and death often result from motor vehicle accidents involving a motorcycle.  The lack of a barrier between the motorcycle rider and the road leaves motorcyclists vulnerable.  Almost 2/3 of accidents involving a motorcycle and another motor vehicle result from a motorist violating the motorcyclist's right of way.  Motorcyclists can be up to 27 times more likely to die in a collision and five times more likely to ger injured than people who ride in cars.

Inexperienced motorcyclists may not know their machine well and exceed the speed limit. New riders are not the only motorcyclists who speed, older experienced riders can also joy-ride or speed to get the thrill of going fast.  But, traveling over the speed limit coupled with a slip of the wheel or an unexpected obstacle can lead to an unfortunate consequence for a motorcycle rider.

Texas motorcyclists are protected under Texas motorcycle law that makes negligent drivers responsible and liable for injuries they cause or even a wrongful death.  A biker who is involved in a Texas motorcycle accident may obtain compensation for his or her injuries that were caused by the other driver’s negligence.  Damages may include payment for pain and suffering, scarring, disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of life, economic loss, and more.
