Monday afternoon in Lufkin, Texas, emergency personnel were kept on their toes by multiple car accidents in a short period of time, one wreck causing serious injuries.
Multiple minor injuries were reported, along with major property damage to several vehicles. The biggest wreck took place 59-North just north of Loop 287 when an 18-wheeler driven by Charles Robbins, of Paris, Texas, lost its trailer box as it struck the bottom of a railroad crossing, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Robbins was pulling non- hazardous cargo for the U.S. Army. The accident caused his trailer's insulation to spill out, part of its roof to peel back, and the large metal container to be knocked off its trailer.
As post-accident traffic slowed, one driver rear-ended the back of a silver pickup ahead of her. Immediately after that secondary accident, an 18-wheeler tow truck a few cars behind slammed on its brakes, nearly slamming into a concrete barrier.
Shortly before that second accident, on state Highway 2021, a Jeep was involved in an accident with a party rental truck, resulting in minor injuries.
Just over an hour later, Lufkin Police and Fire Departments were again responding to a the most serious wreck so far that day, one with multiple major injuries at Harmony Hill Drive and FM 58.
