Corpus Christi, Texas Motorcycle Accident Kills One, Critically Injures Another

Friday night, a motorcycle crashed into a truck on the Nueces Bay Causeway, leaving one dead, the motorcycle rider.  The accident sent the passenger to the hospital.

Highway 181 Northbound was backed up while police cleared a four-car accident.  The highway was down to one lane and traffic was severely backed up.  A motorcyclist who allegedly was not paying enough attention and rubber-necking, crashed into the back of a blue pickup truck.

The force of the impact propelled both riders off the bike and onto the road, killing the driver instantly.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  The riders were both only identified as being in their thirties.  The female passenger is being treated at Spohn Memorial Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Neither of the motorcycle's riders were wearing helmets.

We have written about how the repeal of the Texas motorcycle helmet law has led to an increase in fatal traffic accidents involving motorcycles.  It seems that almost daily, I find myself reading articles about fatal traffic accidents in Texas where a rider or passenger was killed and happened to not be wearing a helmet.  Could wearing a helmet have saved their lives?
