5-year-old Christopher Kayden Roedel was killed in a car-pedestrian accident late last month. The child was hit by a Ford F-250 as he was running across the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Streetlights at the intersection were not working at the time of the accident darkening the streets and sidewalks where Roedel was hit.
Lights broken or working improperly can be reported online or be called in to 1-888-313-4747. CPS has removed all other children from the home, this includes four boys, one of them a newborn.
Charges were not filed against the driver of the truck, Cesar Ortega.
An estimated 6,000 people are killed and 90,000 are injured each year in accidents involving pedestrians, about one-seventh of all traffic-related deaths.
Children, who are less careful, are most at risk. If a loved one has died in a car-pedestrian accident, contact a pedestrian accident attorney for help.
Many drivers fail to yield to pedestrian, hitting people in crosswalks, intersections or parking lots. Drivers also may be using alcohol or drugs; dialing, texting or talking on cell phones; and otherwise driving while distracted.
Drivers striking pedestrians may drive cars, trucks, taxies, buses or motorcycles, and many are hit-and-run. Poor visibility contributes, and even moreso at this time of year due to changes in Daylight Savings Time. Many children also are struck around the time they walk home from school.
If a loved one was suffered wrongful death in a pedestrian knock down, contact an experienced pedestrian accident lawyer and seek compensation. A skilled pedestrian accident attorney must prove that a driver's negligence or wrongdoing caused the injury or fatality.
